 It was widely recognized that massive capital inflows flooded the East Asian countries, including Indonesia, during 1980s and the first half 1990s significantly contributed to the impressive economic growth. Capital flows increased investment, and increased investment contributed to achieving higher growth. Then high growth performances attracted further capital inflows. A virtuous cycle of capital flows and economic growth was indeed an important part of the Asian miracle.
